Release your creativity at Australian Body Art Festival

Cooroy is host to Australia’s premier body painting event held on 4 & 5 April, the Australian Body Art Festival.

As well as amazing body and face painting there are all sorts of other artforms that anyone with a bit of creative inspiration can get involved in.

“There are so many opportunities for creative people to get involved at the festival.  The body painting is a bit more specialised, with specific paints and equipment needed and a bit of skill using the medium and a living person as a canvas.  But novices are definitely encouraged to enter and have even won prizes in the past so experience isn’t a pre-requisite.  There is also a junior face painting category this year for the first time for under 18’s.  There is also wearable art and surfboard art competitions which are great for anyone that is artistic, creative or imaginative,” said event manager Danielle Taylor.

The Noosa Outback Surfboard Art competition is exactly what it sounds like – you get given a surfboard to decorate however you like.  While painting it immediately jumps to mind, you can be as creative as you like and could use anything such as decoupage, mixed media, graffiti art or whatever your imagination can think up!  The theme is Noosa Outback and there are some great cash prizes and the surf boards are all auctioned at the end of the day to raise funds for next year’s festival.

Another great competition for creative souls is the Bendigo Bank Wearable Art Competition with a theme of Time Travel.  This is funky fashion created out of discarded materials.  Again, you are only limited by your imagination with all sorts of materials being used in the past including bottle caps, spoons, video tapes, cds, plastic bags and more!

Entry fees are very affordable with some great prizes up for grabs.  Early bird rates finish on Friday 28th February, so get in quickly!  All the information is available on the website www.australianbodyart.com.au

The 2020 festival has a theme of Time Travel.  The Australian Body Art Festival is run by the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce and supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program.  It couldn’t be held without the support of the sponsors: Mix FM, Sunshine Coast Daily, Eumundi & District Historical Association, Tourism Noosa, Noosa Outback, Wythes Real Estate, Cooroy Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank, Fiducian Financial Services, Face Paint Shop Australia, SPV Accounting, Sunny Coast Accountants, Cooroy Supa IGA, Cooroy RSL, Gelignite Jacks, Fairy Tale Events & Equip4Hire, Firefly Solutions, Mehron Makeup Australia, Tewantin Noosa RSL, Cooroy Hotel, Junkies Magazine, Not Just Another Salon and Derivan.
