Australian Body Art Festival set for funding boost

Cooroy’s very own, Australian Body Art Festival is one of the events from across regional Queensland that will receive a boost in funding from the Palaszczuk Government, with Tourism and Events Queensland today launching the latest round of the Queensland Destination Events Program.

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said 20 events would receive a total of $828,000 across eight regions in the 13th round of QDEP funding.

“We invest in events because they bring tourists to regional Queensland and support local jobs,” she said.

“We work closely with organisers to maximise the impact of these events for our economy – encouraging tourists to stay in regional Queensland to experience what we have to offer,” said Ms Jones.

Australian Body Art Festival is run by Cooroy Chamber of Commerce and attracts over 9000 attendees from around Australia and overseas to the 2 day event held in Cooroy. It showcases world class body painting, wearable art, musicians and street performers and has an amazing unique community feel that is typically Cooroy. The event puts $1.5 million back to the local economy through visitor spend.

“We are so excited to receive funding through the QDEP program, it’s a great event and to receive this support for marketing will make a huge difference. We couldn’t do it without the funding support of grants and our awesome sponsors and encourage anyone interested in getting involved to contact us,” said Event Manager, Danielle Taylor.
