Once again Cooroy shows that it plays in the premier league, with Cooroy Chamber of Commerce being awarded $34,500 by the Federal Government for the 2019 Australian Body Art Festival under the Building Better Regions Fund Community Investment Stream. Another stellar achievement by our fantastic Cooroy volunteers!
This will be the third year for the Australian Body Art Festival in Cooroy and it is shaping up to be an event not to miss on 6 & 7 April next year. The theme is “Other Worlds” which is sure to offer up all sorts of amazing creations from the artists. The art on show includes body and face painting, Wearable Art (fashion from recycled materials), .
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Llew O’Brien, said the community-based projects were a positive investment in the region’s future.
“The Cooroy Chamber of Commerce will receive $34,500 to organise a body art festival, consisting of competitions in body painting, wearable art, photography, and community art, demonstrations, and street and stage entertainment.
“These projects will provide new opportunities and help promote the region, ensuring that Wide Bay remains resilient and prosperous into the future, ” said Mr O’Brien.
“This grant is fantastic and will help take the event to the next level. We still need support from sponsors and supporters as it is matching funding, so we also have to raise an additional $34,500. If you’ve ever thought of sponsoring this awesome community arts festival, this is the year to get on board because your sponsorship will go twice as far,” said event manager, Danielle Taylor of Firefly Solutions.
The Australian Body Art Festival attracted 8000 people this year from around Australia and generated over $1 million dollars of economic benefit for the region. With the increase in funds, the aim is to double the attendance this year and provide a bigger and better show.
